Know more about the Pod taxi project as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has approved the upcoming project for Bandra Kurla Complex.

The MMRDA has appointed the Sai Green Mobility as the concessionaire for the Bandra Kurla’s pod taxi project.

This decision was made during the 282nd executive committee of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority which was reportedly chaired by the state chief secretary on Thursday.

As per reports, the Sai Green Mobility will handle the everything of the pod taxi project including the development part, designing, engineering, construction, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance.

The aforesaid company will reportedly partner with M/s Ultra PRT, a technology provider with a proven track record, including the operational pod taxi system at the Heathrow Airport in London.


Sai Green Mobility is a Private Limited Company, incorporated under the Companies Act as a Company limited by Shares and is classified as Non-govt company and is registered at RoC-Hyderabad. There are 2 promoters of the company viz. Siroor Valagudde Shanker Shetty, Ramesh Kumar Ramakrishnan.

The Hyderabad based company was incorporated on 14-3-2024 and has a paid up capital of Rs.1 lakh.

Reportedly, the pod taxi system’s network will span over 8.8 km in Bandra Kurla Complex, with 38 stations along the route.

The pods will reportedly measure 3.5 m in length, 1.47 m in width, and 1.8 m in height, reaching a max speed of 40 km/h.

The pods will be able to accommodate at least 6 passengers. The project depot will be located within Bandra Kurla Complex.

As per MMRDA, the pod taxi system is set to enhance last-mile connectivity in Bandra Kurla Complex, serving the 400,000 to 600,000 commuters who travel to and from the business district daily.

The fully automated pods will reportedly operate every 15 to 30 seconds, making them the ideal travel connectivity for narrow roads linking the BKC to the Bandra and Kurla suburban stations.

The decision to implement the pod taxi system follows a comprehensive techno-economic feasibility study commissioned by MMRDA.

Fares for Pod Taxi Service

Fares for the pod commute service reportedly have been set based on surveys of current auto and bus users.

Currently, taxis charge Rs 18.67 per km, while ride-sharing services like Ola and Uber often cost between Rs 80 and 100 for the short 2-3 km trips from the stations to BKC.

As per these surveys, 70% of auto users and 36% of bus users are willing to pay Rs 21 per km for the pod taxi service.

As a result, the TEFS study recommended a fare of Rs 21 per km, with a 4% annual increase to account for inflation and operational costs.

The project, estimated at Rs 1,016.34 crore, will take three years to complete, with the operator managing it for 30 years.
