Income Tax officials raid KK Mishra’s residence

The incident took place on Thursday evening, when Income Tax officials raided the Delhi residence of tobacco tycoon KK Mishra where his son lives. The Income Tax Department conducted simultaneous raids against Banshidhar Tobacco Private Limited and the residences and offices of people linked to the company.

According to reports, the IT sleuths conducted raids across five states: Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi. Around 15 and 20 people reportedly took part in these searches. While the Income Tax department mainly targeted the raids at the company owner, the main spectacle took place at his son Shivam Mishra’s residence in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar.

Reports state that officials recovered a list of many luxurious items, notably, high-end cars, including a Rolls-Royce Phantom, worth ₹16 crore, McLaren, Lamborghini, and Ferrari worth over ₹60 crore in total. Interestingly, many of the seized cars all carry the same number on the plate: 4018. Moreover, the IT sleuths seized around ₹4.5 crores in cash in the alleged tax evasion raids against the Banshidhar Tobacco Company.

According to the IT Department, the firm has various discrepancies in the balance sheets. The company documents allegedly state that the company earned an income of around 25 crores, while the actual revenue was way higher at around 100–150 crores.

Banshidhar Tobacco Private Limited is a Private incorporated on 30 September 1992 and is classified as Non-govt company and is registered at Registrar of Companies, Kanpur. Its authorized share capital is Rs. 5,000,000 and its paid up capital is Rs. 3,455,000 and is inolved in Manufacture of tobacco products [ tobacco related products are also included while preliminary processing of tobacco leaves is classified in class 0111].

Banshidhar Tobacco Private Limited’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) was last held on N/A and as per records from Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), its balance sheet was last filed on 31 March 2022 and the directors of Banshidhar Tobacco Private Limited are Krishan Kumar Mishra, Shivam Kumar Mishra and Neha Mishra. Their net worth isn’t known though.

A fleet of luxury cars were recovered from Shivam Mishra’s Delhi home. Shivam Mishra, the scion of a tobacco company at the centre of multi-state raids by the income tax department and the Income Tax department executed a series of raids on Banshidhar Tobacco Company, unearthing a complex web of financial manipulations that extend across various states and even overseas.

The raids, spanning 20 locations including Kanpur, Delhi, Mumbai, and Gujarat, have exposed alleged discrepancies in the company’s reported turnover.

Fifteen to 20 teams carried out raids across five states, metaphorically shaking down every tobacco leaf linked to Banshidhar Tobacco Company, to stumble upon a treasure trove of luxury cars worth a staggering ₹ 50 crore; among them, a Rolls-Royce Phantom, priced at ₹16 crore, found at Shivam Mishra’s home in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar.

Other luxury cars recovered from Shivam Mishra’s home were a McLaren, a Porsche, and a Lamborghini and the IT teams have confiscated ₹ 4.5 crores in cash during the raids, along with several documents.

The epicentre of the scandal is KK Mishra, the patriarch of the tobacco business and Banshidhar Tobacco Private Limited is a big player in the tobacco industry and is known for supplying products to major pan masala groups. Reports suggest that the company has a declared income of ₹ 20 to 25 crore when the turnover was pegged at ₹100-150 crore.

KK Mishra bio

KK Mishra, also known as Munna Mishra, is a tobacco business baron and the owner of the Banshidhar Tobacco Company. Mishra is considered a big name in the tobacco industry and has had a reputation of being untouchable until now. The company is based in Kanpur, and it is reportedly a supplier of some of the biggest Pan Masala brands. He has a son named Shivam Mishra, who is also a board member of the company. The raids have exposed the lavish spending of the company executives.
