Oreva group which is specialized in CFL bulbs, wall clocks and e-bikes is under scanner following the collapse of a suspension bridge at Morbi in Gujarat, know about its owner
The bridge collapse has reportedly killed more than 140 people. As per a report of The Quint, the sources revealed to the outlet that 2 officials of the group have been arrested by the police following the bridge collapse.

As per reports, the company was in-charge of maintaining and repairing the 100-year-old bridge, however, it is still unknown how it managed to get the contract.
According to the official figures, the causality includes more than 50 children.

For those who are unfamiliar let us tell you, Oreva group was founded by Odhavji Bhai R Patel nearly 5 decades back.
The company has previously made headlines after the founder Patel passed away earlier this month at the age of 88 years.
Odhavji Bhai was a science teacher before switching his career as an entrepreneur in 1971.
The company whose turnover is approximately Rs. 800 Crore, is quite well known for manufacturing home and electrical appliances.
As per the official website of the company, the brand claims to employ more than 6,000 people. Though they haven’t mentioned their construction business.
As per reports, the company, which operates as one of the largest manufacturing plants at Samakhiali, Kutch District, sells their products via 55,000 channel partners across the nation.
The manufacturing plant of the group has been built over 200 acres of land.
Morbi Suspension Bridge Incident
Coming back to the bridge, the suspension bridge is quite well known as ‘jhoolta pul.’ It is situated above the Machchhu river.
As per reports the bridge was closed 7 months ago due to repairs and was reopened on the day when Gujarati’s celebrated their New Year, on October 26.
Though the company, who got its repairing contract by the Morbi municipality back in March this year, was bound by the contract to keep the bridge closed for at least 8 to 12 months for maintenance.
Now reports are swirling around claiming that the bridge was opened without a fitness certificate.
Company’s comment
Though as of now, the management of the company hasn’t said anything about the tragic incident. However a spokesperson of the group responded soon after the bridge collapsed.
The spokesperson stated that the collapse occurred because “too many people in the mid-section of the bridge were trying to sway it from one way to the other.”
Government’s comment
In a recent statement, the state information department revealed that apart from local rescue teams, they have sent several other teams to search and rescue people.
They revealed that they have sent the 5 teams of NDRF, 6 teams of the State Disaster Response Force, a team of the Air Force, 2 teams of the Army and the Indian Navy.
As per authorities, all of them were involved in an overnight rescue operation.
According to a statement by the Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, a FIR was lodged under sections of IPC including sec 304, 308, and 114.
As per media reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the incident site on Tuesday, November 1st.
