In the T20I series against Sri Lanka, the Indian cricket team is seen wearing brand-new uniforms thanks to a sponsorship transfer from Mobile Premier League (MPL) to Kewal Kiran Apparel Limited, the parent business of the clothing line Killer. The images of Indian players before the T20I series have proved this, even though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not commented in this regard.
Know who is the new kit sponsor for the Indian cricket team and Killer Jeans BCCI contract
MPL was the official jersey sponsor till 2023.
Up to December 31, 2023, MPL was the sponsor of Team India’s uniforms, but the mobile gaming business had asked to leave the partnership sooner. After then, the BCCI urged MPL to keep sponsoring team uniforms for at least through March 31, 2023. But judging by the way things are going, MPL has abruptly terminated the agreement and given the kit sponsorship to KKCL.
“On December 2, 2022, BCCI received an email from MPL Sports requesting a full assignment (team + merchandising) to the apparel manufacturer Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited for the period of January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. It was suggested that with the next back-to-back home series and the women’s away schedule, the current arrangement shouldn’t be hindered since it involves performance gear for the national teams.”
A message from BCCI read, “We had urged MPL sports to extend the affiliation at least till 31.3.2023 or look for a partial assignment that would only entail the right chest logo but not the kit manufacturing deal” (according to PTI).
BCCI has seen significant sponsorship setbacks.
Notably, the BCCI has seen significant sponsorship setbacks as a result of the board’s agreements with Paytm and Byju’s expiration. While Paytm transferred the domestic rights of the BCCI to Mastercard, Byju’s notified the top body that they desire to terminate their agreement before it expires.
“On April 11, 2022, Byju’s sent BCCI an email asking for the association to be terminated following the recently finished T20 World Cup.”
