The Ex-Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, was shot and gravely wounded by a lone attacker with what appears to be a very crude improvised double-barrelled weapon made from pipe, tape, wood and electrical (!) firing components.

42 year old Yamagami is a former Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force member and has spent three years in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force until 2005. Yamagami attacked Abe with a shotgun while the latter was delivering a speech near the Yamato-Saidaiji Station in Nara City with him admitting he shot with intention to kill. The weapon he used in the attack was a homemade one.
Yamagami who has since admitted to the shooting, didn’t attempt to flee the scene of crime with him also saying that while he didn’t disagree with Abe’s political beliefs, he was far from satisfied with how the ex-Prime Minister had run the country.
What’s Japanese Media Saying?
According to the Japanese news agencies, on Friday, the former PM of Japan, Shinzo Abe, was shot in the western Japan. The former PM was rushed to the nearby hospital, reportedly he showed “no vital signs”.
After being shot during a campaign speech in western Japan, Abe collapsed at the scene and was bleeding.
The Japanese media, NHK reported that Abe was bleeding when he collapsed in Western Japan and he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Witnesses reported that they heard a gunshot. Abe was standing at the stage while giving his campaign speech ahead of Sunday’s election for the upper house of parliament.
According to the initial reports, an NHK reporter on site heard the sound of gunshot and soon after saw Abe bleeding.
The supporter of Abe said during the interview that His legacy was stronger and the relationship between US and Japan was meant to bolster Japan’s defence capability. But Abe made enemies too by forcing his defence goals and other issues through Parliament, despite the strong opposition by the public.
Abe comes from a politician’s family, his grandfather, Nobusuke Kishi was also the former Prime Minister of Japan. His political goal was often focused on making Japan a “beautiful” and “normal” nation with stronger military and bigger role in international affairs.
