15-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on June 12, 2009 but her height isn’t known. She was introduced to tennis practically by accident when she was eight years old, it was an after-school sport. She developed her early skills under the tutelage of former India No. 1 K.G. Ramesh before enrolling in the Pro Serve Tennis Academy.

Coming from a middle-class family, her father Rajeshwaran works for Mondelez India Foods Ltd., while her mother Revathi is a homemaker. Her father Rajeshwaran played competitive cricket and volleyball.

Over the previous five years, coach Manoj Kumar has played a significant role in bettering her game.

Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi came into the L&T Mumbai Open unranked but now holds the 645th spot after she marched into the semifinals of the WTA 125K tournament at the Cricket Club of India.

She defeated World No. 434 Jessica Failla of the United States (7–6(9), 1–6, 6–4) after defeating World No. 264 Nicole Fossa Huergo of Italy in a fierce three-setter (6–3, 3–6, 6–0). Her accomplishment of being the youngest Indian player to ever earn a WTA point with these victories is a testament to her talent and promise.

Maaya has taken full use of her opportunity at the WTA 125 event, which is the second-highest tier in professional women’s tennis, right after the WTA Tour, after being granted a qualifying wildcard by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association.
