IOC clears Lin and other female boxers for Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on July 29, 2024 that they have cleared Lin and other female boxers to fight at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The IOC have made the decision despite the IBA decision against them. It also highlights the ongoing dispute between the IOC and the Russian-led International Boxing Association (IBA).

Due to the dispute, the IBA have lost the power to organize Olympic boxing since the Tokyo Games in 2021 due to various governance and ethical issues. As a result, the IOC currently only oversees Olympic boxing qualifying and competitions directly.

Lin Yu-ting bio and age

Lin Yu-ting who is a biological female is a Taiwanese boxer who was born on December 13, 1995 in New Taipei City, Taiwan. She is currently 28 years old and competes in the Featherweight division. She gained prominence after winning a gold medal at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in the bantamweight division. She also won a medal at the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

Lin Yu-ting stands at a height of 1.75 m and roughly weighs around 51 kg.

Career and achievements

Lin Yu-ting mainly competes in the bantamweight division who has had 19 career wins so far. She mainly gained prominence after winning a gold medal at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships as a bantamweight. She won another medal the following year at the same competition.

She has won medals at the 2022 Asian Games, in the Women’s 57 kg, and at the 2018 Asian Games in the Women’s 51 kg. Just last year in March 2023, Yu-Ting won a bronze medal from the International Boxing Association (IBA) Women’s World Boxing Championships. However, she failed a sex test and got stripped of it, with Bulgaria’s Svetlana Staneva instead winning it.
