About Archana Kamath

For the curious, born on June 17, 2000, Archana Kamath is a Indian table tennis player, who previously, won gold medal at the National games of India in womenโ€™s singles in 2023.

Archana Kamath, who hails from Bangalore, is a part of the Indian table tennis national team for the Summer Olympics 2024. Reports suggest that Archana comes from a family of doctors in Karnataka.

She has a rating of 163 and is ranked 121 in the ITTF ranking.

Parents

Archana Kamathโ€™s parents, Girish and Anuradha Kamath, both are doctors, specializing in ophthalmology.

When Anuradha was 14 years old, she created history after becoming the youngest player to win the U-21 Indian national title in 2021. Her sports journey, since then has been marked by resilience, and hard work.

Career

Kamath was introduced to the sport at the tender age of nine. While visiting her uncleโ€™s house in Mangalore, she encountered a ping-pong table, which sparked her interest in the game.

She credits her brother, Abhinav Kamath, who had a keen interest in the sport and encouraged her to compete in games.

In the Karnataka state ranking table tennis tournament in 2013, Archana Kamath, won at least 30 titles and become the youngest player to win the U-21 in India at just 14.

In the same year, she won the gold in the national championship in singles and bronze in doubles.

Her international debut began in 2014, after she was selected to represent Indian on the Asian team at the ITTF world cadet challenge, wherein she bagged a silver medal alongside a Fair play award.

The 24-year-old secured the top spot in the state in the Under-15, Under-18, Under-21, and womenโ€™s singles categories.

Archana Kamath, alongside fellow players Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula, will compete for a team medal on August 10.

The forthcoming event will feature 5 medal competitions such as menโ€™s and womenโ€™s singles, mixed doubles and menโ€™d and womenโ€™s team competition.

The menโ€™s team event medal match will be on August 9, and the womenโ€™s team event medal match on August 10.
