Thomas won the 200-meter butterfly at the U.S Olympic Swimming Trials on Wednesday at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The youngster finished with a time of 1:54.50, beating Lucas Urlando, who finished at 1:55.08.

Thomas Heilman is an American competitive swimmer who was born on February 7, 2007, in Crozet, Virginia, USA. The youngster currently holds a world junior record in the long course 4×100-meter freestyle relay. He is a part of the Cavalier Aquatic, a USA Swimming and YMCA Swim team based in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Heilman was born to Brad and Carrie, and he has three siblings. He has two older brothers named Jason and Matthew, and a younger sister named Katherine. Heilman comes from a sporting background, as his grandfather was a footballer at Iowa State. His mother was also a basketball player at HolyCross, while his brother Matthew is also a swimmer for the University of Virginia.

Thomas Heilman is currently a student at Western Albemarle High School, located in Virginia. Last year, on October 22, 2023, the youngster announced his commitment to join the University of Virginia once he graduates high school.

Heilman currently trains under coach Gary Taylor, who is the head coach of the Cavalier Aquatics. Taylor has previously worked as a coach with Florida State University, NC State University, and Auburn University. Most notably, during his four years at Florida, Taylor helped his swimmers break eight school records.
Meanwhile, at NC State, Taylor helped the men’s program win four-straight Atlantic Coast Conference Championship titles. He also led the team to three consecutive top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships. Aside from that, Gary Taylor also led the women’s team to the conference Championship in 2017 and coached Anton Ipsen, the NCAA champion.

Heilman started out swimming at a very young age and gained prominence in the sport when he was just ten years old. The young swimmer stormed to a national age group in the 100-yard butterfly race and went on a record-breaking spree just a few years later. He set 14 U.S. event records in the 13-14 years category in just 11 days during December of 2021.
The following year, Thomas Heilman won three golds and three silvers from the 2022 Junior Pan Pac Championships. He also managed to set a world junior record in the 4×100 m freestyle. Last year, the youngster won his first major medal as part of the American 4×100 medley team after the team clinched a World Championships gold in Fukuoka.
