Ariarne Titmus’ Swimming Career
Ariane Elizabeth took home a silver medal in the 4X200-metre freestyle relay at the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, which took place in August in Hawaii, the United States. In the 400-metre freestyle, Titmus finished third with a time of 4:09.81, 2.29 seconds behind winner Li Bingjie.
She won the gold medal in the women’s short course 400-metre freestyle event at the 2018 FINA World Swimming Championships with a time of 3:53.92. She shattered Wang Jianjiahe’s previous record, set two months earlier.

She is one of the 27 Australian swimmers selected to compete in Gwangju’s 2019 World Aquatics Championships.
In the women’s 400-metre freestyle, she finished second in her preliminary heat. However, she won first place and set an Oceania record in the final with a time of 3:58.76, besting only Katie Ledecky by one-hundredth of a second.

Titmus, from Australia, won two gold medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She beat world record holder Ledecky by 0.002 seconds in the 400-metre freestyle final with a time of 3:56.69. In the 200-metre freestyle final, she set a new Olympic record with a time of 1:53.50. Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong had been her main competition for the majority of the race, but she came back aggressively to grab the lead on the final circle. In the 800-metre freestyle final, Titmus came in 1.26 seconds behind Katie Ledecky and took home the silver medal.
She beat Katie Ledecky’s old 400-metre freestyle long course record of 3:56.46 at the Australian Swimming Championships in 2022 with a time of 3:56.40.
