Ana Carolina Vieira is a Brazilian swimmer who was born on October 24, 2001 in São Paulo, Brazil. The swimmer was representing Brazil at the Paris Olympics 2024 before facing expulsion. She had earlier represented Brazil in the 2020 Summer Olympics. Ana Carolina notably won a silver medal in the girls’ 4×100 metre freestyle relay during the Youth Olympics. Following the achievement, she immediately rose to fame as she was part of the first Brazil team to win a medal in the event during an international championship.

Career and achievements
Ana Carolina Vieirah first gained prominence after she broke the record in 4 × 200 m freestyle relay at the 2018 José Finkel Trophy. That same year she won a silver medal in the Girls’ 4 × 100 metre freestyle relay at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics held in Buenos Aires. She then won a silver medal in the Mixed 4 × 100 metre freestyle relay.
Following her achievements, she got the chance to represent Brazil at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She competed in the women’s 4 × 100 metre freestyle relay event, where she finished in 12th. She also competed at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Earlier this year at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships, Vieira, alongside her teammates finished 6th in the 4x100m freestyle. She also featured in the squad for the ongoing 2024 Summer Olympics. However, the Brazilian Olympic Committee sent her home from Paris following a disciplinary issue.
Ana Carolina Vieirah expelled from Paris 2024 Olympics
According to reports, the the Brazilian Olympic Committee expelled the Brazilian swimmer from the Paris Olympics 2024 after she broke a crucial rule. Carolina reportedly snuck out at night to hang out with her boyfriend and another athlete, Gabriel Santos. The pair left the village at night without informing the team on Friday night just a day ahead of competing in the 4×100 meters freestyle relay on Saturday, July 27.
However, the team eventually learned about her escape after she posted photos from the night out on social media. Following the incident, the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) decided to oust Vieira, while giving a warning to Santos. The BOC stated:
The athlete Ana Carolina, in a disrespectful and aggressive manner, contested a technical decision made by the Brazilian National Swimming Team committee. She will return to Brazil immediately.”
Meanwhile, Gustavo Otsuka, Brazil’s swimming team leader stated:
We’re not here playing or taking a vacation. We’re here working for Brazil, for the 200 million taxpayers who are working for us. We can’t play around here. She took a completely inappropriate position to make her point, her dismay, about the formation of the relay.”
