Just recently, Thursday morning, Sven-Goran Eriksson publicly announced his cancer diagnosis. Eriksson shared on Swedish Radio P1that he has “best case a year” to live. He added:
I’m going to resist for as long as I can. I have an illness that’s serious. Best case a year, I have worst case a lot less. It’s impossible to say exactly, so it’s better to not think about it.”

He was born to parents, Ulla Eriksson and Sven Eriksson, and he is currently 75 years old. He has a brother named Lars-Erik Eriksson. Sven-Goran is affectionately known as “Svennis” in his native Sweden.

Sven-Goran Eriksson is arguably one of the most recognizable managerial figures in football. The veteran manager enjoyed a career that spanned over four decades. Eriksson started by establishing himself as a promising European manager across different leagues. He enjoyed success in Serie A with Rome, Lazio, Sampdoria, and Fiorentina before spending two separate spells at Portuguese side Benfica.
During those 20 years in Europe, Eriksson won four league titles, five domestic cups, one UEFA Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, and a Cup Winners’ Cup. Eriksson also finished as the runner-up in the European Cup (now Champions League) with Benfica back in the 1989–90 season. He also came in second on two occasions in the UEFA Cup. After finding success with club football, he took on the role of managing international sides, starting with England.
He managed the so-called ‘Golden Generation’ between 2001 and 2006, implementing similar tactics as the current Crystal Palace manager, Roy Hodgson. Svennis went on to manage sides like Mexico, the Ivory Coast, and the Philippines. He also took up season-long roles in the Premier League during these international roles with Manchester City and Leicester City. Eriksson also spent four years in China, where he managed at three separate clubs.
