Actor and director Guruprasad leaves behind his second wife Sumithra and their three year old daughter Nagu Sharma
On Sunday morning, Kannada actor and filmmaker Guruprasad was discovered dead in his Bengaluru flat. His age was fifty-two.

Guruprasad may have committed suicide, according to the police. Bengaluru Rural SP CK Baba claims that Guruprasad had just returned to his Bengaluru residence and was experiencing financial difficulties.
Authorities have ruled that Guruprasad may have passed away four to five days ago, as his body was discovered in a decomposed state and was found hanging.
The neighbours had seen Guruprasad coming to this house but after 5-6 days it appeared that he didn’t come out of the house and he had hanged himself,” said SP CK Baba.
He claimed that after neighbours observed a bad odour coming from the director’s apartment, which had been locked from the inside, the police were called. When the police arrived at his house after learning of the situation, they broke in and discovered Guruprasad’s body hanging in the drawing room in a very decomposed state.
“It is a sad fact that famous film director Guruprasad has passed away,” remarked former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai in Kannada, expressing his sorrow on X. He highlighted that he has provided Karnataka with a number of excellent films.
Guruprasad family, education and career
Age 52 Guruprasad hailed from Kanakapura city in Karnataka. He was born in the Ramanagara district on November 2, 1972. Guruprasad was 5ft 10in tall. He got married to Sumithra in 2020 and the couple has a three year old daughter named Nagu Sharma.

Guruprasad’s wife Sumitra has now filed a complaint with the police station. Guruprasad, who had divorced his first wife, had married Sumitra a few years ago during Covid. The couple has one daughter. His second wife, Sumithra, told police he had a few months ago sent her and their three year old daughter to her parental house and he was suffering from financial issues.
Earlier, Guruprasad was married to Arathi but their marriage ended in divorce with the two having a daughter as well.
“He tied himself to an iron hook upstairs and committed suicide by slitting his neck. There is no doubt in my husband’s death. Come to the spot and take further legal action. “I am complaining that the exact reason for the hanging should be investigated,” Guruprasad’s second wife Sumitra said in her police complaint after his death.
Guruprasad was a well-known Kannada film director. The movie Mata was Guruprasad’s first directorial venture in 2006. Alongside the director, Jaggesh played the principal role in the film. Mandya Ramesh, Vijanath Biradar, and Tabla Nani were among the other actors who worked on this project. After Mata’s enormous success, the filmmaker started to have a lot of wonderful prospects in the business.
Eddelu Manjunatha, Guruprasad’s next major project, reunited him with actor Jaggesh. 2009 saw the premiere of the comedy-drama, which was well appreciated by viewers. Yagna Shetty played the lead role in the film.
In 2009, Guruprasad won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Screenplay for Eddelu Manjunatha. Guruprasad was passionate about acting in addition to filmmaking. He starred in films such as Hudugaru, Kal Manja, Mylari, Jigarthanda, Kushka, and others in addition to Mata and Eddelu Manjunatha.
