She is the daughter of a Trinamool Party “strongman” and close assistant to Mamata Banerjee, Anubrata Mondal, who was also detained by the CBI in November 2022 for his suspected participation in the same crime.
Due to sizable undeclared assets and bank accounts directly tied to her, Sukanya was summoned by the ED to its headquarters in Delhi in connection with the case and detained after hours of interrogation. She reportedly spent many hours being questioned, but when the cops didn’t receive any adequate responses, they arrested her.
When questioned about the enormous sums of money the ED had located and the multiple properties registered in her name, she said that she knew nothing about them and added that her father is aware of these issues.
