The Millers endured a forgettable campaign, currently sitting 22 points adrift of safety with only three games remaining.

Club Released Statement After Dismissing Richardson

A statement from the club reads “Rotherham United can confirm that the club have parted company with first team Head Coach Leam Richardson with immediate effect. Leam was appointed in December 2023, taking charge of 24 matches in all competitions during that time. Assistant Head Coach Rob Kelly has also left the club.”

Rotherham United’s New Manager

Following the dismissal of Leam Richardson, the club has reappointed their former manager, Steve Evans, to lead them forward. After learning about the news, supporters of the club are in shock as Steve Evans resigned from his position as manager of Stevenage and accepts the role at Rotherham United.

This move follows shortly after Rotherham announced the dismissal of Leam Richardson, following the club’s relegation from the Championship. Returning to Rotherham, Evans previously guided the team from League Two to the Championship during his initial tenure from 2012 to 2015. He will once again work alongside Paul Raynor at the New York Stadium.

Who is Steve Evans?

For the unversed, Steve Evans was born in Glasgow, Scotland on October 30, 1962. He is a Scottish football manager and former player. He currently holds the position of manager for the EFL Championship club, Rotherham United. Evans has been married to Sarah-Jane since 2004 and the couple has two beautiful daughters.

Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Evans pursued a professional football career, representing teams such as Bolton Wanderers, Clyde, Albion Rovers, Ayr United, Hamilton Academical, and St Johnstone. Unfortunately, a knee ligament injury halted his playing days at the age of 24.

Managerial Career

Post-retirement, he transitioned himself into management and took the helm at various clubs including Stamford and Boston United, where he managed twice. However, he courted various controversies and even faced prosecution for tax evasion.

However, the 61-year-old manager found his success at Rotherham United as he guided the club to consecutive promotions before partying his way in September 2015. Now once again, Rotherham has rehired Steve Evans for a second stint as manager following the dismissal of Leam Richardson.

Richardson’s departure from the Millers came Wednesday morning after a disappointing tenure, marked by 18 losses in 24 games and relegation. Shortly thereafter, Stevenage’s manager, Evans, was swiftly announced as his successor on a three-year contract.

With Evans’ return, there’s a structural shift as director of football Rob Scott transitions back to head of recruitment, while Evans assumes the role of manager instead of head coach.
