Following the announcement of Borthwick’s appointment as the new head coach of the English National Rugby Team, Borthwick satted:
“I’m deeply honoured to be appointed England head coach and I am very excited by the challenge. The English game is full of talent and I want to build a winning team which makes the most of our huge potential and inspires young people to fall in love with rugby union the way I did”.
Steve Borthwick Brief Bio
Stephen William Borthwick is a retired rugby professional who was born on 12 October 1979, at Carlisle, Cumbria in England. Borthwick studied at the Hutton Church of England Grammar School before pursuing pursued a graduate programme in economics with politics at the University of Bath.
While pursuing his studies, he also joined the Bath college team balancing his studies and rugby for five years. He finally graduated in 2003 with a degree, and by then he had already made his national side debut for England back in 2000. Borthwick played his first match with Bath against the Saracens whom he later joined. After retiring from his professional playing career, Borthwick started his career as a rugby coach.
He was born to his parents in Carlisle, Cumbria, England but their names are not known. While he is married and has two sons, the name of his wife in not known either.

Borthwick was also a part of England’s World Cup team back in 2007 and served as captain in 2008. He retired from his national team career later in 2010. However, he continued playing for the Saracens across four more seasons before he finally retired in 2014.
Coaching Career
Following his retirement as a professional rugby player, Borthwick has worked as a professional coach ever since. Borthwick was notably the coach for the Leicester Tigers coach from 2019. He is now the new head coach for England national rugby team after the official announcement on December 19 2022.
