Former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue has denied rumours that he went bankrupt because his ex-wife Aurelie Bertrand got all of his assets during a nasty divorce fight in England about four years ago.
It is said that Eboue lost all of his money to his ex-wife and had to sleep on the streets and fight to find food. But the Ivorian said on Empire FM’s Sports World with Kofi Mensah that all those rumours were false and that he still had land to his name.

“When [people] say Emmanuel Eboue lost everything, itโs not niceโฆ Because I had a divorce [case] and they [court] said my wife won, they gave her all my properties โ my two houses, money and the cars that I had in England. I wasnโt worried about it because I expected that she was going to use it to take care of my children.”

Eboue said that the divorce decision made him feel sad, and he went on to say that he has property in both Ghana and his home country, Ivory Coast. “I live very comfortably and I thank God. So when people keep talking and say Emmanuel Eboue doesnโt have anything, he canโt eat, doesnโt have a place to stay, itโs not true,” he reiterated.
Emmanuel Eboue bounces back after divorce and financial troubles
After he went back to his home country of Ivory Coast, the 37-year-old remarried his childhood friend and ex-girlfriend Stephanie Boedรฉ. Emmanuel Eboue has said that he will stop playing football in October 2020. He owns and runs a football school in Ivory Coast at the moment.
Emmanuel and Stephanie were childhood sweethearts with the two going to the same school in Abidjan. The two went onto marry in 2018 in Ivory Coast after Emmanuel’s divorce with his ex-wife.
Fans of Eboue, who had been impressed by his sports career, were said to be very worried when they heard he had gone bankrupt. Many people thought that after he and his ex-wife split up, he had nothing left.ย But Eboue has now set the record straight, saying that he has gotten through his problems and is doing well.
Who is Emmanuel Eboue?
Emmanuel Eboue is a right-back who used to play club football in Ivory Coast. He started his career in his home country at ASEC Mimosas before going to Beveren, Belgium. During his six years at Arsenal, where he won the FA Cup twice, he became a well-known player.
Eboue later played for Galatasaray and Sunderland, but emotional and financial problems cut short his career. In 2017, he said that he was depressed because he had lost everything to his ex-wife in a bitter split. But he was able to work through his problems and now runs a football school in Ivory Coast.
