25-year-old Zeeshan Ansari was born on born 16 December 1999 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He has been in the spotlight for a while, despite having little expertise in the shortest format. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he only participated in one Twenty20 match for Uttar Pradesh, going wicketless and giving up 32 runs. His cricket career, however, started much earlier as he was included in India’s 2016 Under-19 World Cup squad.
Zeeshan grew up in a modest Muslim family of tailors as the eldest son as his father, Mohd Naeem Ansari, and paternal uncle, Mohd Gayas Ansari, own a tailor shop named New Noor Mohammad Ladies Tailor in Lucknow.
”Some players who came to the shop inspired me to send my child to sports. After this, I took my son to LDA Academy. At that time, the monthly fee here was Rs 300. We did not even have that much money. Then the academy’s coach Gopal Singh offered to give free coaching to Zeeshan,” Zeeshan’s father had revealed previously.
Zeeshan’s ascent did not follow the traditional age-group cricket system, in contrast to many of his teammates from that U-19 squad. His family became skeptical of his cricketing potential after he was not selected for Uttar Pradesh’s under-14 or under-16 squads. His father was reluctant to encourage his cricketing ambitions, preferring that he make a financial contribution instead, as they had a 19-member combined family in Lucknow.
When Ansari played for the Meerut Mavericks in the UP T20 League, it was his big break. With 24 wickets in 12 matches, he finished as the tournament’s top wicket-taker, demonstrating his outstanding play.
Zeeshan Ansari signed a Rs 40 lakh contract with SRH in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction in Jeddah in November 2024 as a result of his exceptional performance. He has taken 17 wickets in five First-Class matches for Uttar Pradesh in addition to his T20 exploits.
But even with his inclusion, SRH’s batsmanship was forgettable. Hyderabad’s top order crumbled under pressure, unable to handle the onslaught from the Capitals’ bowlers, and Delhi’s bowling assault proved to be too formidable.
The team struggled to recover when the much-discussed batting order, which had been explosive in earlier games, crumbled against disciplined bowling.
