On Saturday, April 9, 2023, Ohio sprint car driver Justin Owen died from injuries he got in an accident at the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship race at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Indiana
Owen had turned 26.
During Owen’s qualifying run for the race, he drifted high into Turn 3, lost control, and crashed into the wall. After several spins, his car flew into the air and landed in the middle of the track. The race was stopped right away, and 30 minutes later, the event was cancelled by the series. Later that night, the news came out that Owen had died from his injuries.

Even though Owen was still young, he had already done a lot of great things in his riding career. In 2019, he won three races at the Lernerville Speedway in Pennsylvania, the Paragon Speedway in Indiana, and the Night of Champions race in Lawrenceburg.

He also won at Lernerville in 2016 with the horse BOSS. He also had two runs in USAC’s main events, both at Lawrenceburg in 2019 and 2021.
