Nezza is a famous Latin singer who is currently embroiled in controversy and facing backlash after performing the US national anthem in Spanish. The famous singer performed the Spanish version of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” in front of a packed stadium. She performed “El Pendon Estrellado”, which is an officially commissioned version by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945.
Nezza revealed through an Instagram post that she was told to sing in English last-minute, but chose to proceed in Spanish to honor her heritage. The reel showed her saying told off-camera, “We are gonna do the song in English today,” before eventually stepping up and singing it in Spanish anyway. Nezza later explained that she performed in Spanish for “mi gente” and to stand against the ICE raids affecting immigrant communities.
