Swami Prasad Maurya is an Indian politician who was born on 2 January 1954 in Village and Post Office Chakwad, Distt Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh. He belongs to the Samajwadi Party and was a member of the 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh, India. Swami was born to Badlu Maurya and Jagannathi Maurya and he is the eldest of five children. Swami has three younger brothers and a younger sister.

Swami Prasad Maurya is a veteran and experienced politician, who has previously served as a cabinet minister several times. Swami began his political career back in 1980 when he joined the Janta Dal. However, he resigned in 1996 and joined the BSP the same year. Swami joined the party as the new General Secretary and State Vice President of the BSP Party in Uttar Pradesh. Swami Maurya resigned from the BSP in 2016, alleging that the party ran a ‘Money for Ticket’ syndicate. Interestingly, he also became Buddhist that same year.
