Who is Shaun von Berg?
Shaun von Berg is a South African cricket player who was born on September 16, 1986, in Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa. The 37-year-old is a leg-break bowler and bats right-handed for the Northerns.
A look at Shaun von Berg’s career
In the 2006 season, Von Berg played 16 games for Sandwich Town, which finished in sixth place in the Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League. This was Von Berg’s first experience playing cricket.
In the 2009โ10 season, against Border, von Berg made his first-class debut for the Northerns. He batted first in the first innings and scored 44 runs from the lower order. Heย was added to the Bloem City Blazers roster in August 2017 for the T20 Global League’s inaugural season.
He was included in the Titans’ September 2018 Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy roster. The following month, he was included in the Tshwane Spartans roster for the inaugural Mzansi Super League T20 competition.
In the 2018โ19 CSA 4-Day Franchise Series, he was the Titans’ joint top wicket-taker with 21 dismissals in seven games. Von Berg was included in the Durban Heat team’s September 2019 roster for the Mzansi Super League competition. He was added to Boland’s roster in April 2021, just in time for the South African cricket season of 2021โ2022.
Talking about his international career, Von Berg was selected for the South African Test team in June 2018 for their series against Sri Lanka. He was unable to make his complete Test debut in the second test at Hamilton until the 2024 Proteas visit to New Zealand.
He had a troublesome 2015 when von Berg missed nearly the entire first-class season with a fractured finger. He returned to action in January 2016, picking up 91 wickets in 25 matches, including four five-wicket hauls and Von Berg wheeled away for long spells at Titans, but he played just five matches in his side’s run to the first-class competition title in 2016-17. Despite that, he returned 32 wickets.
