Born on April 10, 1998, Yusuf is the embodiment of South African cricket’s grinding domestic pathway. Codi got married to his wife Ashlynn Yusuf on 2 September, 2023.
His parents Lauren and Ardiel Yusuf have been a big support structure in his life and his love of the game started when they bought his his first cricket set. Codi went to the Waterstone College. While his religion isn’t known, the surname Yusuf is both associated with Christianity and Islam.
He began his professional journey in 2018, representing Mpumalanga in the Africa T20 Cup. By 2019, he was turning out in all three formats for Gauteng. That season, he topped the wicket charts in the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge with 16 scalps in just nine matches.
He became a vital cog in the Gauteng setup and, more recently, with the Lions in the 4-Day Series Division 1. In the 2024–25 red-ball season, he finished with 23 wickets at an average of 22.39 — the joint-most for his team.

In April 2025, Yusuf signed with Durham for a stint in the English County Championship and T20 Blast. This overseas experience proved invaluable, adding layers to his bowling craft and improving his adaptability. It came just in time, as selectors looked to replenish the Test squad post-WTC success. Standing out for his accuracy and ability to move the ball off the seam, Yusuf is not known for express pace but rather for relentless pressure and smart variations.
Yusuf’s debut in the first Test against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo came alongside rising stars Dewald Brevis and Lhuan-dre Pretorius. With Maharaj leading the team, the decision to include three debutants underlines the management’s trust in the new generation of cricketers and the depth of South Africa’s domestic system.
