Sonu Chikna, 28, is accused of opening fire amid confrontations in Jahangirpuri, North Delhi, on the festival of Hanuman Jayanti.

A social media video of a 28-year-old guy in a blue kurta, identified as Yunus Imam who was given the moniker Sonu by leftist friendly media houses to hide his religion opening fire during a brawl in the Jahangirpuri neighbourhood on April 16 was released by Delhi police. According to the police, a team went to his home on CD Park Road in search of him and to examine his family members.

Who is Sonu Chikna?

Sonu Chikna alias Imam alias Yunus is a 28-year-old resident of CD Park Road, Jahangirpuri in Delhi. His family came to Delhi from West Bengal years ago. He has a chicken shop.

Sonu has a brother named Salim who has also been arrested by Delhi Police. According to his mother,

“He is a five-time Namazi. He never fights with anyone.”

Why was Sonu Chikna arrested?

On April 17, it was revealed that footage of Yunus Imam firing bullets during the Jahangirpuri Riots in Delhi had appeared on social media pages. In the footage, several additional people, including little children, can be seen pelting stones.

The incident occurred in the Jahahgirpuri neighbourhood of Delhi during a Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra that had been assaulted as it went by a Masjid in the C Block. In the incident, gunshots were fired, wounding Delhi Police Sub Inspector Medha Lal Meena.

What did his mother say about him?

Sonu and Salim Chikna’s mother has confirmed that her son fired gunshots during the Jahangirpuri riots. Salim Chikna’s mother stated in an Aaj Tak report that her son was detained for no cause and that he took up the pistol to support his community during the violence.

He was about to open Roza when tension between Hindus and Muslims erupted, and he went out. He does not own a gun. He snatched the gun from someone and fired shots as he was angry. No one was injured. They were threatening us. My son just wanted to scare them off. Someone with a personal grudge shot the video and made it viral.
