26-year-old Olympic skier Tereza Nova, who competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics is currently in a medically induced coma. It all happened after Tereza fell on Friday, on January 24, 2025, during her preparations for the upcoming women’s World Cup downhill. The fall happened during a training run on the Kandahar slope in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Following the fall, Nova sustained a serious head injury before officials immediately took her to the Murnau Accident Hospital by helicopter. Nova underwent surgery at the hospital to reduce brain swelling before being placed in an artificial coma. The Czech Ski Association officially announced that Nova will remain induced in the artificial coma for as long as necessary:
We are all thinking of Tereza and wish her a speedy recovery and lots of strength. She underwent surgery to reduce brain swelling at the Murnau hospital and will remain in a medically induced coma for as long as the medical team deems necessary.”

Tereza Nova is a Czech professional Olympic skier who was born on February 6, 1998, in Stod, Czech Republic. She is currently 26 years old and competes in the Downhill and Super-G events. Tereza is a part of Sportovni Club Černý. Nova is currently in an induced coma after undergoing brain surgery to treat injuries following a heavy fall during a training run.
She is also a university student studying strength and conditioning training. Nová competed in her first World Cup in 2019, and made her Olympic debut three years later. Her parents are, Jirí and Pavla Nová and her father, Jirí, was a former professional skier who inspired her. Tereza is currently single and unmarried.

Career
Tereza Nova is a renowned Olympic skier who has taken part in three World Cup downhill events. Aside from that, she also competes regularly on the European Cup circuit. Nova made her international racing debut back on December 4, 2014, during an FIS slalom event in Geilo. Five years later, she competed in her first major international event at the Junior World Championships in Val di Fassa.
She then won her first medals during the Czech Championships, with a silver in the Super-G and the Alpine Combined. She also won a bronze in the downhill in the same event. Nova then made her World Cup debut on November 23, 2019 in the Levi Slalom event. Three years later, in 2022, Nova took part in the Winter Olympics in Beijing finishing her best career best at 14. Tereza Nova then won her first race in a continental racing series in the downhill event on September 25, 2024.
