Sky Brown’s father Stuart was also a former professional skateboarder and his daughter’s biggest inspiration. Stuart who hails from the UK had one of the biggest influences on his daughter’s career while growing up.

He shared back in an interview:

I remember her, as a baby, on her tummy all the time on a skateboard. It sounds like a cliche but it was her favourite toy.”

Despite the fact that Stuart never got to skate at the Olympics, his daughter Sky, has ensured that his own legacy will continue on with her. When Sky was just four years old, Stuart posted a video of her skating on Facebook. The clip instantly went viral, which catapulted her career to what it is now at present.

Meanwhile, Sky Brown’s mother Mieko is Japanese, and Sky herself was born in Japan, which made the Tokyo Games even more special for Sky.

Mieko has a more hands-off approach with Sky’ skateboarding career compared to her father. However, she is responsible for managing her daughters’ Instagram profile. Sky Brown also has a younger brother named Ocean, who is just nine years old and also loves to skate.

A terrifying accident

Ahead of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Sky’s parents Stuart and Mieko were initially against her competing. This is because just last year, she fell off her board in a horrible incident. Sky fell head-first off from a ramp and ended up fracturing her skull. She received lacerations to both her heart and lungs in the process.

While speaking about the accident, Sky explained how she didn’t remember anything about the fall when she woke up.

She stated:

But apparently when I woke up, I didn’t know who I was or who my family was. My parents didn’t want me to do the Olympics, but I wanted to. They felt it was too much pressure.”

Sky’s mother Mieko now struggles to watch her compete out of fear. In fact, she mostly watches all her events only after they’re done.

Her father Stuart stated:

It was really hard for my wife. It took a long time before she could see Sky skate again. She doesn’t really watch her anymore. She’ll watch videos afterward but not live.”

Sky Brown is now set to continue competing in events and is currently putting all her focus on Paris 2024.
