As per a report in ESPN, 70-year-old Ratcliffe, is willing to pay a premium for the acquisition in order to get control over some decisions that a minority investment would not typically be able to provide.
Reportedly, Ratcliffe is prepared to spend between £1.3 billion ($1.576 billion) and £1.5 billion ($1.82 billion) for the ownership, even though United’s current market valuation is approximately £2.6 billion. The Glazers would maintain a controlling interest under the terms of the agreement, which may be approved as early as this week.
Ratcliffe also owns French club Nice and Swiss team Lausanne-Sport, was born and raised less than 10 miles from Old Trafford and grew up as a United supporter.
