Born on 20 October 1979 in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, Sonu Kakkar spent her formative years in humble surroundings, where her father earned a living by selling samosas outside her school. Sonu’s formal education concluded after Class 8, and she later completed her studies through an open board, never stepping into a college classroom. Her tryst with music began at the tender age of five, when she started singing devotional bhajans at jagratas.
In 1990, her family moved to Delhi, and eventually, she relocated to Mumbai to chase her dreams. There, she participated in Channel V’s reality show Indian Pop Star, where music director Sandeep Chowta took note of her talent and promised to launch her into playback singing. That moment arrived in 2003, when she made a sensational Bollywood debut with the hit song “Babuji Zaara Dheer Chalo” from the film Dum, catapulting her into the limelight.

Away from the studio, she enjoyed travelling, shopping, and was often seen driving around in her Audi Q3.
