When Jasleen Royal sang at the Coldplay performance in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, January 18, she represented all Indians.

Mumbai residents were drawn to the DY Patil stadium for a fantastic and exciting evening when Coldplay: Music of the Spheres World Tour performed. Jasleen Royal’s hit song Kho Gaye Hum Kahan launched the Mumbai performance. When she joined Chris Martin, the leader of Coldplay, for a duet on the song “We Pray,” which is taken from the band’s most recent album Moon Music, she experienced her big moment on the stage.

However, she has since been berated by fans on social media with many calling her out for an extremely average performance, one far bereft of the standards of a band like Coldplay.

Jasleen revealed the songs she would be playing on the Coldplay: Music of the Spheres World Tour in January 2025 before the show. She posted a sneak peek of her performance alongside Chris Martin on Instagram after the show.

Jasleen Royal was born into a Punjabi Sikh household in Ludhiana, Punjab, on July 8, 1991 to Mohindar Royal and Bably Kaur but is an atheist herself. She is 5ft 1in tall. Jasleen grew up with her sibling Japji. After graduating from Sacred Heart Convent School in Ludhiana, she went to New Delhi to continue her education. She graduated with honours from Hindu College in New Delhi with a B. Com.

While she was linked to YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, she is currently single and unmarried.

Jasleen, who was primarily self-taught and had no professional music instruction, first rose to fame in 2009 when she was among the semi-finalists in the inaugural season of India’s Got Talent at the age of 18.

Indian singer, songwriter, and composer Jasleen Kaur Royal performs in Punjabi, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, and English. For Shershaah (2021), she won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director in 2022, making her the first female music director in history. She shared the honour with the film’s four other composers.

At the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards India, she took home the Best Indie Song trophy. She won this prize for her first song, “Panchi Ho Jaava,” which was written and performed by Jasleen and is based on a poem by Shiv Kumar Batalvi, a poet who writes in Punjabi.

She received a prize for “Best Indie Artist” at Songdew’s “Free The Music” event, which is specifically for independent musicians. She was nominated with well-known and established vocalists including Rabbi Shergill, Kailash Kher, and the Delhi-based band Indus Creed.

She made her Bollywood debut in September 2014 with the song “Preet” from the Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan movie Khoobsurat, which was written by Amitabh Verma and composed by Sneha Khanwalkar.
