Three UPSC aspirants allegedly died, and several others were trapped after a nearby drain burst, causing flooding in the basement of a UPSC coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar, a Delhi Fire Service official reported.

On July 28, students protested and raised slogans against authorities outside the coaching center, which preliminary investigations indicate houses a library.

For the unversed, earlier, due to water flooding in the basement of an IAS coaching center located in Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, two female students and one male student drowned and died on Saturday.

In response, students from the coaching center are protesting outside against the mismanagement of the MCD and the Delhi government. The rescue operation has now concluded.

Identity of the Deceased

The identities of the three deceased students have been confirmed. Their postmortems will be conducted today, after which their bodies will be handed over to their families.

Delhi Police reported that the students were from Kerala, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. Their names are Shreya Yadav, Naveen Dalwin, and Tania Soni. The bodies have been sent to RML’s mortuary.

What Did the Delhi Police Reveal?

Delhi Police stated that age 25 Shreya Yadav was from Barsawan Hashimpur in Ambedkar Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh. Her father’s name is Rajendra Yadav. She had come to Delhi a month ago to prepare for the Civil Services Examination.

Tania Soni, daughter of Vijay Kumar, was from Telangana. Naveen Dalwin, from Ernakulam district in Kerala, was pursuing a PhD from JNU. His father’s name is Suresh Dalwin.

Providing an update on the rescue and relief operations, MCD supervisor Rishipal said that the water has been drained from the basement of the building. However, there are still 3 to 4 inches of water remaining.

MCD has deployed all necessary machinery, and the entire building is now empty. No one is currently trapped inside.

In another update to the story, on Sunday, the authorities detained the owner and the coordinator of the coaching institute. They are charged with culpable homicide, among other offenses.

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi ordered strict action against commercial activities in basements, while Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva called for an inquiry into the incident.
