Indian flag-bearers in the Paris Paralympic opening ceremony will be Sumit Antil, the gold medallist from the Tokyo Paralympics, and Bhagyashree Jadhav, the silver medallist from the Asian Para Games.
“Antil and Bhagyashree have been consistent performers over the years. They will be Indian flag-bearers at the Paris Paralympics’ athletes march past,” the Paralympic Committee of India stated.

On May 24, 1985, Bhagyashree Jadhav was born in Mukhed taluk, Nanded district, Maharashtra. She started using a wheelchair after an accident in 2006 after which she went through sadness with her losing both her legs. She started wheelchair sports, thanks to Marathi journalist Prakash Kamble.
Bhagyashree has been a consistent performer on the international stage.
The 2022 Asian Para Games silver medal went to 39-year-old Bhagyashree Jadhav in the F34 shot put category. She competed for India at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, where she qualified for the final and finished seventh. She took home a bronze at the Feja World Cup in 2021.

She competed in the World Para Athletics Games in China in 2019 and came away with two bronze medals. She started playing sports in 2017 and competed in the Pune Mayor’s Cup, winning two gold medals and a bronze.
The Galaxy Hospital in Nanded awarded her the ‘Dr. Pradnya Nitin Joshi Smriti Kritagyata Sanman’ award in 2021.
Star para-athlete Javelin in the F64 category, Sumit Antil currently holds the world record. At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, he set a world record with a throw of 68.55 meters, earning him a gold medal. At the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships, Antil added another gold medal to his impressive resume.
At the 2022 Asian Para Games, he also set a new world record with 73.29 meters.
This year, India will participate in twelve sports, including three new ones: blind judo, para rowing, and para cycling. This expansion was announced by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI). Interestingly, from 14 in Tokyo to 32 in Paris, there are more than twice as many female participants. India is looking to top their 19-medal haul from Tokyo in Paris.
