At the Asian Games 2023, Sarabjot Singh and Divya TS spectacular win for silver won millions of hearts. Singh scored 291, and Divya TS scored 286. Their combined efforts came to a total aggregate of 577 during the qualification round. 

Who is Sarabjot Singh?

Sarabjot Singh was born on September 30, 2001, in Dheen village, Ambala Block, Haryana and the 22 year old has a height of 5 feet 9 inches. He attended Bhagirath Public School in Ambala and went to DAV College in Chandigarh. He is the son of a farmer, Jitender Singh. There is no further information available about his mother and siblings. His marital status is unmarried.

Sarabjot Singh’s Motivation Behind The Shooting Career

Sarabjot stated that when he was 13 years old, he wanted to play football, but one day at the summer camp, he noticed several youngsters using pistols to shoot at paper targets. He was greatly affected by this moment, and he made the decision to continue shooting.

He told his father that he intended to become a shooter at that time. After taking home the silver medal in his first district-level tournament, he began receiving professional training under the direction of coach Abhishek Rana.

Sarabjot Singh’s Shooting Career

  • Sarabjot won two gold medals in the 65th National Shooting Championships in the team event in December 2022 at the MP Shooting Academy in Bhopal.
  • In March 2023, Sarabjot became the first player to win a gold medal at the World Cup by defeating Ruslan Lunev of Azerbaijan by a score of 16-0. 
  • Sarabjot excelled during the competition and earned the highest score of 585 points following the qualification round. After the ranking round, Ruslan came in second with 251.9 points, closely followed by Sarabjot with 253.2 points. They both felt confident going into the gold medal round. 
  • The Indian men’s team, which included Sarabjot Singh, Shiva Narwal, and Arjun Singh Cheema, finished third at the ISSF World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. Their aggregate score was 1734 in the finals. Sarabjot Singh earned the highest score of the three, with 578.

His coach, Abhishek Rana, has been working with Sarabjot since 2016. They first met when Sarabjot won a silver medal in his first district-level competition.

Sarabjot’s emotional and physical health weren’t exactly perfect during an event in Cario. To sharpen his focus, he needed to work consistently, speak with a psychologist, and engage in extensive meditation. To maintain his good health, he now focuses on exercising.
