On June 2, 2003, he was born in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan. At age 3, he began playing tennis. He competed for Kawasaki Municipal Mukai Elementary School in the fifth grade and made it all the way to the semifinals of the 32nd First Life National Elementary School Tennis Championship.
Shintaro Mochizuki entered the United States to train at the IMG Academy in Florida when he was 12 years old after passing the selection exam for the Masaaki Morita Tennis Fund. In 2019, he started going to N High School.

His career
Shintaro Mochizuki’s journey in tennis began with school and college competitions. He created history in 2019 when he won the boys’ singles championship at the Wimbledon Championships, becoming the first Japanese boy to compete in a Grand Slam junior singles final. He led Japan to win the Junior Davis Cup that same year.
He lost against Altug Celikbilek in his ATP debut at the Singapore Tennis Open in 2021. Additionally, he qualified for the Miami Open’s ATP Masters 1000 main tournament in 2021.
In 2023, Shintaro Mochizuki secured his first professional title at the Open Città della Disfida Challenger. Notably, he overcame the top seed Taylor Fritz in the ATP 500 Japan Open to record his first ATP Tour-level victory and go to his first-ever ATP Tour-level quarterfinal. During this extraordinary run, he rose more than 80 spots in the rankings, landing him among the top 135 players worldwide.
