Shane Tamura identified as Midtown NYC shooter
Authorities have identified Shane Tamura as the NYC shooter who stormed the 345 Park Avenue skyscraper just before 6:30 p.m. Tamura reportedly opened fire and fatally shot three civilians and a police officer. As panic echoed through the upper floors, police officers quickly evacuated the building and later discovered Tamura’s body on the 33rd floor, where he had apparently taken his own life.
Shane Devon Tamura, 27, went into 345 Park Ave. in midtown just after the end of business Monday armed with an M4 rifle and opened fire in the lobby and again on the 33rd floor before he eventually killed himself with having a documented mental health history.
The NFL offices were located on the fifth floor of the building he targeted and also houses some of the country’s top financial firms, including private equity giant Blackstone, and KPMG.
Shane was licensed till 2027 to carry his weapon in Nevada.
Tamura has a Las Vegas address, and the black BMW he got out of in Manhattan is registered to him in Nevada and inside the vehicle, investigators found a rifle case with rounds, ammunition magazines, a loaded revolver and prescribed medication.
Motive behind the shootings
As of now, the officials have not confirmed an official motive behind the shootings, but speculations suggest that Tamura probably carried it out of possible frustration with his failed football career. Some reports suggest that Tamura may have resented not making it into the NFL, whose headquarters are located in the same building as the shooting. As of now, all of these theories remain unverified, but the police have not released further information.
The suspect left a note at the scene voicing anger that his mental illness may be linked to his having played football and wondered about “CTE” as being a possible cause of his mental illness. He died from a self inflicted gun shot to the chest.
Charges and allegations
Since Tamura died at the scene, no formal charges have been filed against him. However, police are treating the incident as a mass shooting and potential targeted attack.

He left a suicide note claiming that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and pleaded for his brain to be examined.
The note stated: “Terry Long football gave me CTE, and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze. You can’t go against the NFL; they’ll squash you. Study my brain, please. I’m sorry. Tell Rick I’m sorry for everything.”
Terry Long was a footballer who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and was diagnosed with CTE and died by suicide after drinking antifreeze in 2005.

Shane Tamura apparently has too much melanin for a mental health defense. I've seen propaganda about him being Middle Eastern, although his name is Japanese & propaganda about him being a democrat. He's an independent. pic.twitter.com/kpBjvVHnwa
