All the expenses of our marriage was taken care by my mother, and she spent a total of Rs. 25,60,000 on the same,” she said in her statement to the police and further stated that after their marriage, she moved in with her husband and his parents Ms. Shalini and her husband Bharat Pal Singh (72) in their apartment at Neelkanth Gardens, near Govandi station (East).

Anshumala complained that she had married Madhav Singh in 2013 at the Taj Jai Mahal Palace in Jaipur. According to her, the venue was chosen under Shalini’s pressure. After getting married, Anshumala lived with her in-laws in Govandi.

The Complaint Filed By Anshumala Singh

According to Anshumala’s claims in the FIR, following her marriage, nobody at home would talk to her, and everyone would be preoccupied with their own jobs. She claimed that her mother-in-law asked her to seek a medical checkup because the couple was unable to conceive.

Anshumala claimed that her mother-in-law became upset with her after learning that the results of her medical tests were normal because she insisted that her husband get checked out as well.

She has also claimed that the family of her husband demanded her dowry and pressured her to establish a claim on her mother’s property. Anshumala then began residing independently in the company accommodation in Belapur, Navi Mumbai.

Her husband gave her a divorce petition in 2020. She added that the COVID-19 lockdown was to blame for the delay in reporting the incident.

Shalini Bharat’s Reaction To The Complaint

When approached, Shalini responded, “I do not like to comment on the subject since it is pending in the Family Court. Nearly 7.5 years ago, the complainant left the marital residence on her own. As a woman herself, I support women’s rights to justice. I have complete faith in our judicial system to uphold the law. Please be aware that I am no longer the director of TISS. I hope there isn’t an effort to discredit me because of a bogus and false complaint.”
