Sewak Singh was only 23 years old and the youngest of three siblings. He had joined the Army in 2018 and was known as an inspiration for the youth in his village.
Residents of Bagha remember Sewak Singh as a happy and lively child. He had visited his village six weeks ago on holiday, and young boys in the village used to seek his guidance on physical and mental training to join the Army. In fact, a few months ago, three youths from Bagha had successfully been recruited into the Army. They were motivated by Sewak Singh’s encouragement and tips, according to Naib Singh, the sarpanch of the village.
Sewak Singh’s father, Gurcharan Singh, who is in his late forties works as a daily wager. He is devastated by the news of his son’s demise. Sewak was the backbone of the family, as Gurcharan earns a meager income and Sewak’s elder sister has a two-month-old baby. The family belongs to a Scheduled Caste (SC) community. The loss of their young boy, who was the sole earning member has been extremely difficult for them to comprehend.
The security forces have launched a massive operation to track down the militants responsible for the ambush. Drones and observation helicopters have been deployed to assist in the search, and ground forces, including the Army, police, and intelligence organizations, are actively working in the region to track down the terrorists. The operation is being carried out with utmost professionalism and coordination among different security agencies, with the safety and security of the local population being a top priority.
