The mass shooting took place in Midtown Manhattan, leaving four people dead and shaking New York City to its core.

Authorities have identified Shane Tamura as the NYC shooter who stormed the 345 Park Avenue skyscraper just before 6:30 p.m. Tamura reportedly opened fire and fatally shot three civilians and a police officer. As panic echoed through the upper floors, police officers quickly evacuated the building and later discovered Tamura’s body on the 33rd floor, where he had apparently taken his own life.

Shane Devon Tamura, 27, went into 345 Park Ave. in midtown just after the end of business Monday armed with an M4 rifle and opened fire in the lobby and again on the 33rd floor before he eventually killed himself with having a documented mental health history.

Officials have confirmed that Aland Etienne, who is a unionized security guard and off-duty NYPD officer, was among the four victims killed in the recent Midtown Manhattan shooting. Etienne was stationed at 345 Park Avenue when 27-year-old Shane Tamura opened fire inside an office building. After the shootings, the shooter ultimately turned the gun on himself. Amongst the other victims were Julia Hyman, Wesley Lepatner, and Didarul Islam.  According to reports, Tamura had intended to target the NFL’s office but ended up on a different floor after taking the wrong elevator.

Following the news about the shootings, tributes have come pouring from various sources. Manny Pastreich, who is the president of 32BJ SEIU, praised Etienne’s dedication and stated:

We extend our deep condolences to the families and friends who lost loved ones tonight, including that of our own 32BJ SEIU security member Aland Etienne, a dedicated officer who took his job duties extremely seriously.”

The union also added a message stating:

Meanwhile, NYPD Commissioner Joanna Higgins also issued a statement saying:

Officer Etienne served his community with courage, both in uniform and out. His loss is deeply felt across our department.”

He always checked on us during night shifts. A calm, kind man. This loss is just unreal.”
