During a press conference on Tuesday, civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is representing Massey’s family, stated that the Justice Department has opened an investigation into the incident.

Sean Grayson bio and age

Sean Grayson was a white former police officer who has been charged with murder. He is currently 30-years-old. He was fired just last week by the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office following the fatal incident.

Sean Grayson career

According to state law enforcement records, Sean had been employed across a half-dozen police agencies since 2020. Sean Grayson first got employed part time at the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board on August 11, 2020, under the Pawnee Police Department. He later got hired part time on February 4, 2021, by the Kincaid Police Department.

Just one month later, he got hired again on May 20, 2021, under the Virden Police Department. After working in the role for two months, he got hired full time under the Auburn Police Department. After serving in the role until May 1, 2022, he got hired full time under the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

However, Grayson left Logan County a year later on April 28, 2023. He eventually got hired full time on May 1, 2023, under the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office. According to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, he received his part-time Law Enforcement Certification on June 5, 2021.

Sean Grayson charges

Sean is reportedly facing multiple charges like first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and official misconduct following the July 6 killing. He is currently under arrest without bond in the Sangamon County Jail and could face multiple prison sentences if convicted. He could possibly face up to 45 years to life for murder, six to 30 years for battery as well as two to five years for misconduct.

Sonya Massey shooting

According to authorities, Massey had called 911 to report a suspected prowler to which two deputies eventually showed up. The two deputies showed up at her house in Springfield and inspected the area. Sean Grayson’s body camera video showed them getting into her house and engaging in a conversation.

The situation eventually tensed as Grayson yelled across a counter at Massey to set down a pot of hot water. Grayson felt threatened and shot the unarmed woman, who ducked and briefly rose, before Grayson fired his pistol at her. The officer reportedly shot Massey three times, with the last shot hitting her fatally in the head.
