Philadelphia-based entrepreneur Sean Cook is currently making waves after his women-focused online dating platform, ‘Tea,’ skyrocketed to the No. 1 spot on the US Apple App Store. Sean was inspired to build Tea after witnessing his own mother become a victim of online catfishing. Sean self-funded the development of Tea and launched it in November 2022 owing to his mom’s bad experiences dating online, and unlike typical dating apps, Tea gives women control over their safety.

Users can use the app for reverse image searches, phone number lookups, background checks, and a nationwide group chat where women can share all kinds of anonymous dating reviews. Over 1.7 million women have reportedly used the app, with over 70,000 five-star reviews and a current rating of 4.8/5. Tea has quickly become the highest-rated app in the dating category, and beyond its success, Tea donates 10% of its profits to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

Sean Cook was born in Philadelphia and grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and community. Although his age is not publicly confirmed, he is likely in his mid-to-late 30s. Sean valued standing up for others from an early age and had a drive to use his skills for impact, with music being his first creative outlet. Sean Cook earned his bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, and Music from the University of Connecticut. He graduated in 2013 with a 3.82 GPA and All-American Academic All-Star honors and later completed a software engineering program at the University of California, Berkeley. During his time there, he gained full-stack development skills in technologies like Ruby on Rails, React, and Python.

Over the years, Sean Cook has held major roles in product development with some of the biggest names in tech. He has worked for Salesforce for nearly four years, leading product management, innovation, and customer experience strategies. Cook was also a regular speaker at high-profile events like Dreamforce and AWS re:Invent. Before Salesforce, he led enterprise product teams at Shutterfly. He also served as a solution engineer for multimillion-dollar accounts like Amazon and UnitedHealthcare. Back in 2022, he left all of this to launch Tea full-time, an online dating site that focuses on safety for women.
