Scott Satterfield is a former player and coach in American football. He is now the University of Cincinnati’s head football coach. Satterfield was formerly the head football coach at the University of Louisville from 2019 to 22 and at Appalachian State University from 2013 to 2018. Satterfield started his playing career as a quarterback for Hillsborough Orange High School in his hometown.
Coaching Career
In 1998, he became a member of the Appalachian staff as the receivers coach. From 1999 to 2002, he coached running backs, and from 2002 to 2008, he worked with quarterbacks, playing a significant part in the university’s transformation from a power-I offence to a spread offence. Before taking on a similar position at his alma mater in 2012, he worked for two years as Florida International University’s offensive coordinator after spending one year as the quarterback’s coach and passing game coordinator at the University of Toledo. Satterfield was elevated as head coach when Jerry Moore’s contract was not renewed after the 2012 campaign.
Scott Satterfield holds a 76-48 record (.612) in 10 years as head coach at Louisville and Appalachian State, holding a winning mark in seven seasons in addition to a 4-1 record in bowl games.
Playing Career
From 1989 through 1991, Satterfield played as quarterback for Hillsborough, North Carolina’s Orange High School. From 1992 until 1995, as a student at Appalachian State under Coach Jerry Moore, he started 27 games at quarterback. Satterfield, a senior in 1995, guided the Mountaineers to an unbeaten regular season and the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs quarterfinal, where they were upset by Stephen F. Austin State University. As a senior, he received first-team all-conference recognition.
