As the medical drama airs its final season, the loving family of cast and crewmembers will break up once the final episode ends.
Sadly, the New Amsterdam family had to bid a premature goodbye to a much-loved crewmember in episode 4’s final moments.
The cast and crewmembers paid a final tribute to Schavaria Reeves with a touching title card.
New Amsterdam Dedicates Season 5 Episode 4 To Schavaria Reeves
New Amsterdam’s Episode 4 of season 5 reminded characters and viewers of the benefits of self-care and also how people taking care of others may be the ones suffering most.
As the touching episode concludes, New Amsterdam took another moment to pause. The show took the chance to pay tribute to a much-loved crewmember that recently passed away.
Just before the credits begin rolling, a title card appeared on-screen carrying the following message:
“In Memory of Schavaria Reeves 1965-2022”
Schavaria Reeves worked as a sound mixer on New Amsterdam throughout season 4. His name features in the credits of 20 episodes, beginning with the first episode More Joy, and ending with the finale, I’ll Be Your Shelter.
Schavaria Reeves Cause Of Death
Schavaria Reeves passed away in Clinton, New Jersey on September 24, 2022 after battling with prostate cancer for eight years.
Following his death, family members held a funeral service after a week on October 1 at Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home in New Jersey.
Schavaria leaves behind his beloved wife, Martha Melendez, and their two children Sky and Kayloni Burton, his brother Ernest Reeves, and many nieces and nephews. His mother, Ollie Reeves, passed away in 2021.
A Celebrated Career
Besides working on New Amsterdam, Schavaria Reeves worked as a sound mixer and boom operator for more than 60 productions. He had an impressive career in film and TV spanning almost 30 years.
Some of Reeves’ most notable credits include: Netflix’s Inventing Anna, Power Book II: Ghost, Ray Donovan and its follow-up movie, Little America, Shades of Blue, Quantico, several Law & Order spin-offs, and the films Oblivion, Sex and the City, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Chapters 2 and 3 of the John Wick franchise.
In May 2022, Schavaria received great honor and acknowledgement for his work. He was inducted as a member of CAS, the Cinema Audio Society.
Reeves proudly posted it on his Instagram account along with images from his work in the film and TV industry.
