Have a look at the family, wife and religion of Saulos Chilima
President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi confirmed the death of Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine other people in a plane crash on Tuesday. The country is in mourning.
After a protracted search lasting more than a day, the wreckage of the military plane carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima was found in a rocky mountainous location in the country’s northern region. President Chakwera said in a sombre live address shown on national television that, regrettably, there were no survivors.
The plane carrying former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri and vice president Saulos Chilima, among others, disappeared from radar during the planned 45-minute flight from Lilongwe, the country’s capital, to Mzuzu, in the north. This awful event took place.
Due to bad weather and low visibility, air traffic authorities told the aircraft to return to Lilongwe and redirected it away from the airport at Mzuzu. But after that, communication with the aircraft was suddenly lost.

Saulos Chilima career

Later on, Chilima broke away from the DPP and formed the United Transformation Movement (UTM) on July 21, 2018, in order to run for office in May 2019. In an effort to create a cohesive opposition, the UTM met with representatives from two additional political parties as well as a coalition of smaller political groups on February 1, 2019.
Due to Chilima’s alleged involvement in a $150 million corruption scandal including alleged influence in the granting of government contracts, his delegated powers as a vice president were revoked on June 22, 2022.
He was removed in November 2022 due to claims that he had accepted $280,000 from Zuneth Sattar, a British businessman, in return for giving government contracts to two of Sattar’s associates, Xaviar Ltd and Malachitte FZE.
Following the filing of a move to dismiss the case by the state prosecutor, the corruption accusations were withdrawn in May 2024. Even before the accusations were withdrawn, Chilima was given official tasks by President Chakwera.
