On Monday morning in Nagpur’s Ramdaspeth area, a luxury car, Audi belonging to Sanket Bawankule, the son of Maharashtra BJP head Chandrashekhar Bawankule, struck many vehicles. Following the incident, two individuals inside the car, including the driver, were taken into custody.

There were reportedly five people in the car at the time of the collision; two of them, the driver Arjun Hawre and Ronit Chittamwar, were taken into custody, while Sanket and two other people escaped the scene.
There were five persons in the car at the time of the accident, but three of them, including Sanket Bawankule, had fled and were coming from a beer bar in Dharampeth. The blood samples of the driver and the arrested occupant have been sent for test after around 1 am, the Audi car first collided with complainant Jitendra Sonkamble’s car.
The car also collided with several other vehicles on its way towards Mankapur area and a a T-point, it struck a Polo car, whose occupants then chased the Audi and managed to stop it near Mankapur bridge.
According to preliminary investigations, Arjun Haware and Ronit Chintanwar were both under the influence of alcohol when the tragedy occurred. The police claim that around one in the morning, the Audi struck two vehicles, one being the car of complainant Jitendra Sonkamble and the other, a moped, injuring the two riders.
The occupants of the Polo car stopped Arjun Hawre, the driver, and Ronit Chittamwar, another passenger. They were brought to the Tehsil police station, where they were turned over to the Sitabuldi police for additional investigation before being released on bail.

“No action has been taken so far against Sanket Bawankule, the son of Chandrashekhar who fled and two other occupants who reportedly escaped from the scene at Mankapur bridge,” an official from Sitabuldi police station said.
Sanket’s father Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the Maharashtra BJP Chief was born in a Marathi Teli family on 13 January 1969. He has two kids and is married to Jyoti Bawankule. He followed his higher education in the Science stream and finished his first year in Koradi, which is close to Nagpur.

Chandrashekhar Bawankule career
Chandrashekhar Bawankule began his career in the early 1990s, founding the “Chhatrapati Sena” and seeing to its social activity through 1994. In 1995, he joined the Bhartiya Janata Party, which was led by Gopinath Munde and Nitin Gadkari. He then rose to the position of Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the Maharashtra branch of the BJP for young people.
Bawankule was elected to the District Council in 1997 and 2002. He was initially elected from Kamthi constituency to the Maharashtra state assembly in 2004. He received two re-elections: in 2009 and 2014.
The BJP refused to provide Bawankule with a ticket to run in the 2019 Assembly elections because of charges of corruption. Instead, it was given to his wife Jyoti, who subsequently had it taken away from her as well.
