Sampriti Bhattacharyya biography and age
Sampriti Bhattacharyya is the founder and CEO of Navier, a company that builds electric hydrofoil boats. She was born on 1 January 1987 in Kolkata, India, where she spent her early years. She is currently 36 years old as of 2023. Sampriti is a woman who has defied all odds and found success at the highest level.
Nothing is known about her family and marital status. While her net worth isn’t known, she made it to the Forbes 30 under 30 list.
Sampriti Bhattacharyya education
Growing up, Sampriti Bhattacharyya was a fairly average student who failed in physics and was once even told by her teacher to become a housewife. However, she did not let those comments discourage her and studied engineering at Jadavpur University. Following her graduation, she applied for 540 internships out of which 539 rejected her.
Fermilab, a US-based particle physics laboratory was the only place that accepted her. As such, she moved to the US from Kolkata, to pursue her internship with Fermilab as a research assistant. Following the end of this internship, she got another internship at NASA, where she worked on robotics and space exploration.
Eventually, Sampriti permanently moved to the US back in 2010 with just 200 dollars in her pocket. She enrolled herself in a master’s program at the Ohio State University and later joined (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) MIT for her PhD. It was there that she developed an underwater drone called Hydroswarm, which mapped the ocean floor to detect mines. Aside from that, she also took part in various competitions and hackathons.
Sampriti Bhattacharyya career and road to success
Sampriti met her cofounder Reo Baird at MIT and together, they launched Navier, in 2020. Navier was a company set on creating a new type of watercraft which combines the use of hydrofoils, electrification, advanced composites, alongside an intelligent software system.
The pair designed the Navier 30, a watercraft that glides above water, possessing the structure of an airplane which helps in the gliding motion. The Navier 30 has three wings which all operate below the surface of the water. These wings move at high speed to propel the body of the boat in an upwards direction. This mechanism allows the user to navigate the watercraft at high speeds over the ocean waves.
Through the company, Sampriti aims to make boating more accessible, affordable, and sustainable for everyone. She wishes to change the way people travel on water and also reduce the environmental impact that marine transport brings.
Throughout her path, she has received a lot of recognition and support from various investors, media outlets, and influencers. One of these include, Nas Daily, an Arab-Israeli vlooger who recently made a video about Sampriti and story stating:
She built a flying boat! Her boat is the coolest thing I saw. Sampriti Bhattacharyya is an incredible success story of 13 years of hard work.”
In that same video interview, Nas Daily asked her what she would have done if Fermilabs had declined her. Much to the delight of viewers Sampriti cheekily replied that she would have gone on to email 500 more companies.
