According to official sources, the ED detained liquor industry businessman Sameer Mahandru on Wednesday morning as part of its money laundering inquiry into suspected anomalies in the recently scrapped Delhi liquor policy.

The ED’s action follows the CBI’s arrest of businessman Vijay Nair in this case, in which Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, is also charged.
According to sources, he was interrogated all night long before being hauled into jail under the criminal provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
According to the CBI FIR, Arjun Pandey, a purported accomplice of Sisodia, previously procured 2-4 crore rupees in cash from Mahendru on behalf of Nair, the former CEO of the entertainment and event management firm Only Much Louder.

Who Is Sameer Mahandru?
Sameer Mahandru is a well-known businessman in Delhi’s liquor industry. He has been in the news because he was recently arrested for his alleged foul play in the recently scrapped Delhi liquor policy.
He is a resident of New Delhi. He did his studies at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
His Career
Sameer Mahandru started his career as a sales executive at Hindustan Lever Limited in April 1999 and he worked there till June 2002. After this, he started working as an area sales manager for Asian Paints from May 2004 to Nov 2004.
Later, he worked for SAB Miller as a sales manager from December 2004 to February 2007. After this, in 2007, he founded his own company named Indospirits.
Now, he is the managing director of Indospirits. It is a company with extensive interests in the production, importation, distribution, wholesale, and retail of alcoholic drinks and electronic devices, among other consumer items.
It is present throughout the Indian subcontinent and prefers to cooperate with the most reputable domestic and foreign Alcobev businesses. With more than 1,000 team members, it generates over INR 500 crore (US$ 57 million) in yearly revenue.
