At the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on Thursday, the world will be watching an extraordinary young singer from the Ribble Valley sing the National Anthem, know who is Samantha Oxborough and her Instagram
The ceremony will take place at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. The singer will perform on stage with the band Duran Duran in front of 35,000 spectators.

Who Is The Ribble Valley Singer?
Mezzo-soprano Samantha Oxborough attended Sabden Primary School and Ribblesdale High School. She received her degree in vocal studies from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2017 and later earned a postgraduate degree in the same field.
Samantha has been asked to appear on BBC’s The One Show tonight to discuss the event, which is expected to be broadcast to an estimated one billion people worldwide. Samantha has had success before, though. She participated in a variety of contests and appeared in various operas while attending the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
Based at the National Opera Studios in London, Samantha offers singing lessons at two Coventry schools from 2019 until 2020, when the first Covid-19 shutdown begins.
Former member of the Burnley Alliance Band and Pendle Youth Choir, Samantha is a former member of Pendle Youth Choir. Her former music instructor was David Wilkinson, and she competed annually in the Colne, Burnley, and Skipton festivals. Pendle Young Musicians Bursary funded her music education.

Touching The Zenith
The 28-year-old Samantha will be performing with the 700-member Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Mass Choir, which is composed of various choirs spanning all throughout the city. However, she isn’t bothered or nervous about her performance in front of a global audience. She said, “The thought of myself performing on a world stage on such a huge scale hasn’t quite settled in yet. But I am not going to think about the billion people watching, I am going to focus on my performance.”
She further added that her performing in the Royal Albert Hall in front of 5,000 people was one of her best performances. At the same time, she feels that participating in the opening ceremony will be the apex of her career so far and was extremely gratified to take part in it.
What’s more interesting is that she still be at the games after the opening ceremony, serving as a security guard!
She obtained her SIA security license and underwent retraining to become a caregiver for Midland Mencap during the lockdown in 2021. There she dealt with children who had impairments. Whole her date of birth isn’t known, she is aged between 20-30 years and doesn’t have an official Instagram account.
