A massive call for boycotting Doritos erupted over the weekend after the Spain branch owned by PepsiCo introduced Samantha Hudson as their brand ambassador.
The controversy surrounding Hudson’s selection was sparked by her divisive 2015 remarks against a 12-year-old. At the time, Hudson, 16, reportedly tweeted, “quiero hacer cosas gamberras como meterme an una niña de 12 anos por el ojete.” Moreover, Hudson appeared to be mocking women who have experienced sexual abuse in another tweet.
The lack of response from both Samantha Hudson and Doritos Spain has only fuelled the outrage further. Many social media users have called for a boycott of Doritos products until the brand takes action regarding Hudson’s ambassadorship.
The controversy has sparked a broader conversation about the responsibility of brands when selecting ambassadors and the need for individuals in the public eye to be held accountable for their past actions and statements.
The backlash against Doritos Spain’s choice of Samantha Hudson as a brand ambassador raises questions about the impact of such controversies on the brand’s reputation and its relationship with the LGBTQ+ community.
