On September 19, according to court records, Brinton is accused of stealing a Vera Bradley suitcase from the baggage claim at the Minneapolis St Paul International Airport. The luggage is reportedly valued at $2,325 and was taken without authorization, according to the paperwork.
In a video recording, Brinton can be seen removing the luggage’s owner identification tag. When they later flew to Washington, DC on September 18 and October 9, they were allegedly observed using the Vera Bradley luggage at least twice, according to the police.

Who Is Sam Brinton?
Sam Brinton is the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition’s Deputy Assistant Secretary. He is said to be in charge of NE-8 and its programs, comprising the Office of Integrated Waste Management and the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Science and Technology.
He earned undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering with a nuclear engineering focus and vocal musical performances from Kansas State University. He also holds dual graduate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in nuclear science and engineering and the Technology Policy Program.
Additionally, he is a well-known champion for LGBTQ youth and were instrumental in getting conversion therapy banned in more than half of the US. He employ the pronouns they, them, and theirs and identifies as gender-fluid.
Brinton is married to Kevin Rieck and they told Metro Weekly they are an animal roleplay enthusiast.
His Career
Sam Brinton previously worked as the first employee of the nation’s one and only startup company for the management and disposal of nuclear waste, according to the Office of Nuclear Energy.
He also led one of the first significant national consensus reports on the subject of consent-based siting at the Bipartisan Policy Center.
