Earlier, reports surfaced online indicating that Saleema Imtiaz has made history after she was nominated as the first Pakistani woman to the ICC’s International Panel of Development Umpires.
This news was announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday. Imtiaz’s nomination now qualifies her to officiate in women’s bilateral international matches and ICC women’s events.

After this achievement, Saleema Imtiaz addressed the media and revealed that, “It’s a victory for every aspiring female cricketer and umpire in Pakistan,” while adding that she hos her journey may inspires various other Pakistani “women to chase their dreams in this sport.”
Additionally, she also highlighted how her nomination reflects the increasing influence of women in cricket and the PCB’s dedication to support their development.

Let us remind you, Saleema Imtiaz’s daughter, Kainat, also followed in her mother’s footsteps and started playing cricket professionally. So far, the cricketer has represented Pakistan in 40 international matches, including 19 ODIs and 21 T20s.

Previously, while addressing the media Saleema revealed that her desire to make her own mark in umpiring began when her daughter debuted internationally against South Africa in 2010.
In her statement, Saleema said that she had always dreamed of representing Pakistan at the international level. Though the Pakistani umpire has already officiated in various Asian Cricket Council events, after she joined the PCB’s women’s umpires panel in 2008.
As per reports, after joining the official umpire panel, Saleema Imtiaz has represented Asia Cup 2022 and then the AICC Emerging Women’s Cup 2023, which was held in Hong Kong.
However, she desired to officiate at the highest level as her ultimate goal, which now seemed to be completing soon.
Her first on-field assignment as part of a bilateral series will be the three-match T20 series between Pakistan and South Africa women, starting Monday in Multan.
