Julien Alfred, from the South Castries community of Ciceron, began her education at Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School in Saint Lucia (2013โ€“2015) before moving to St. Catherine High School in Jamaica (2015โ€“2018). Alfred then pursued a bachelor’s degree in Youth & Community Studies at the University of Texas in the United States.

Alfred’s athletic talent was evident early on, becoming the Central American and Caribbean U15 champion in 2015. That same year, and again in 2017, she was honored as Saint Luciaโ€™s Junior Sportswoman of the Year. A standout junior athlete, she won the 100m title at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas. Later, she secured a silver medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

Alfred earned a silver medal in the 100 meters at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and is the joint North American indoor record holder for the 60 meters. She made history as the first woman in NCAA to break the seven-second barrier over the 60 meters and is a three-time individual NCAA Division I champion. In the 2024 Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, Alfred finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.93 seconds.

On June 1, 2024, she equaled the stadium record with a lifetime best of 10.78 seconds in the women’s 100 meters at the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston, Jamaica. Alfred continued her impressive performance by winning the 100 meters in 10.85 seconds at the 2024 Herculis Diamond League event in Monaco on July 12. She set a new national 200 meters record of 21.86 seconds, finishing second behind Gabrielle Thomas at the Diamond League meeting in London on July 20.

Born in 2001 in Ciceron, the 23-year-old had a tough start to life as she lost her father at the age of 12 and attended high school in both Saint Lucia and then in Jamaica. She was raised by a single mother who died shortly before her 2021 suspension.
